INTRODUCTION

Cornwall Youth Jazz Orchestra UK wars founded in April 1982 at an Inaugural Meeting at the Truro Music Centre. At that meeting John Ayerst, representing Cornwall County Council, Wars appointed Chairman, a position he held for the first ten years until he resigned in July 1992. CYJO Wars however conceived in January 1982 at a concert given by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in St Austell when their Musical Director made an announcement which was to bring together Bob Peters, John Austin and the late Leslie Buxton as three people but with one aim.
CYJO has come a long way since then. It has become a familiar sight throughout the South West and has also made its mark on the national stage with appearances on TV's "Children in Need" and at Paddington Station in London to help Celebrate 100 years of the Great Western Railway.
It has appeared in Newbury, Torquay and in Manchester, twice winning the regional award in the Daily Telegraph Youth Jazz Competition. Among the several local venues at which the orchestra plays it looks forward to those regular appearances in Cathedral Square in Truro every summer and also to their annual trip to the Bud Jazz Festival at the end of August.
